Design and manufacture optimization of ostium stent system in treatment of ostial artery stenotic diseases

Atherosclerosis (AS) is the main cause of coronary heart disease, cerebral infarction and peripheral vascular disease. Atherosclerosis has a high incidence in some ostial arteries, such as common carotid artery, subclavian artery. which is related to the formation of blood turbulence, blood flow impact leading to inflammatory lesions and lipid deposition. Endovascular stent implantation is the best treatment for this kind of disease.In addition, in some special parts, such as the lesions at the opening of vertebral artery, the artery may twist with breathing and neck rotation, which may easily lead to stent rupture and affect patency. At present, there are some technologies for accurately positioning the open support, such as Szabo technology, which have high risk of support failure and unloading. Covered stent can effectively cover the atherosclerotic lesions and improve the patency rate, but there is still a rare delivery system for the accurate positioning of covered stent at the opening, and the existing covered stent still has some shortcomings, such as thick coating, poor uniformity, and unsatisfactory flexibility.

Our group has completed the research of self expanding bare stents with precise positioning and complete coverage of the lesions at the opening, and the electrospinning technology of ePTFE and its application in the small covered stent system. Based on this, we plan to improve the design and manufacturing of bare stents and coated stents, further explore the commercial feasibility of the design and manufacturing of coated stents and their precise release systems for open lesions.
