Traditional intravascular endoscopes have limited application in neuro-vasculature due to poor visualization through blood and size constraints. The applicant proposes to develop an intravascular optical imaging catheter for neuro-intervention based on optical coherence principles, which will provide high-quality direct visualization images while meeting the miniaturization requirements for navigation in small intracranial vessels. Building upon a preliminary prototype, this project focuses on the optical components at the catheter tip, catheter design, and animal validation, using micro- and nanoscale optical components and an external charge-coupled device (CCD) camera to generate images, while utilizing an optical fiber to establish the conduit and minimize the diameter of the interventional imaging probe.
