Age is the single most important factor that predicts risk of death due to diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and dementia. However, current medical approaches are designed to treat diseases after they have occurred, without addressing the underlying inflammatory processes that increase with age and lead to the disease state. We have identified a metabolic process that changes with age and is responsible for regulating chronic inflammation. We will evaluate this process to determine whether modulating this metabolic pathway can slow age-related decline.
