Chinese women predominantly have dense breast tissue. Traditional ultrasound examinations are plagued by strong operator dependence, insufficient diagnostic homogenization, and a shortage of professional physicians, which limit the effectiveness of breast cancer screening and diagnosis. Meanwhile, existing automated breast ultrasound devices face bottlenecks such as complex operation, long examination time, and high costs. This project aims to develop the second-generation fully automated 3D breast ultrasound equipment with independent intellectual property rights to address the aforementioned issues, improve screening efficiency and accuracy, and meet the needs of breast cancer prevention and treatment in China.
Objective: Our primary objective is to develop the second-generation fully automated 3D breast ultrasound equipment to enhance diagnostic efficacy and demonstrate that its detection rate and diagnostic accuracy for breast nodules are non-inferior to those of traditional handheld ultrasound. The secondary objective is to compare the size of nodules detected by the two technologies and the time consumed for examination.
Technical Scheme: Instrument development: Improve the ultrasound image quality by optimizing the automated examination process and reducing image noises, and optimize the 3D reconstruction algorithms to reduce image distortion and achieve full-breast 3D visualization.
Basic Conditions: The applicant unit, Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, is a national-level cancer prevention and treatment center with advanced equipment and research platforms. The collaborating unit, CompAI Medical Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., has rich experience in breast equipment research and development.
